Ma Tu Pensa

Altra bella notiziola da Planet Ratail sul futuro di Play.com

Tempismo perfetto con un pizzico di “oh cavolo”. Ah, scusate se non traduco, ma ho poco tempo ultimamente.

Play.com is looking at outside investment after having reportedly asked Lazard, the investment bank where Lord Mandelson is an adviser, to find a buyer for a significant stake. The capital raise is being led by Play.com CEO John Perkins, who joined the company in April 2010 from Apple.

Valuing Play.com is difficult for outsiders because its parent, Zuma Investments, is incorporated in Jersey and not obliged to publish financial statements. However, analysts are of the opinion that Play.com was almost certainly worth in excess of USD400 million, given that turnover and profits have grown rapidly and the company was deemed by experts to be worth at least USD300 million two years ago.

What’s so intriguing about the timing of Play.com founders’ efforts to find outside investment is that it coincides with the struggle of bricks and mortar retailer HMV Group, which has found it hard to fight back against more nimble dotcom competitors, Sky News reports.
